About us

De Fik is a non-profit organization that creates space for events, gatherings, and community-building. We believe that free, experimental spaces are essential for creative talent to grow. With a dedicated core team and a network of passionate volunteers, we make things happen, turning ideas into reality and giving creativity the room it deserves.

Founded in 2004 in the Zaanstreek, De Fik began as an initiative by Nico Redeker, who still leads the foundation as chairman today. Rooted in the local punk scene, De Fik quickly became a go-to hub, always open and ready to support events and initiatives of all kinds, from neighborhood parties and exhibitions to theater performances, protests, and parades.

For years, the foundation operated out of a warehouse on the Zuiddijk, more than just a storage space for light and sound equipment, it was a creative playground where stages were built, decorations came to life, and ideas turned into reality. But its real power? The people it brought together. Over time, this space became a magnet for like-minded creatives, forming a tight-knit, dedicated crew that continues to push De Fik forward to this day.

Volunteering

De Fik runs entirely on the energy and dedication of volunteers. As part of the Fik Family, you decide how and where you want to contribute. Whether you’re shaping project plans, working the bar at events, cooking something up, keeping the studio in check, or handling one of the countless tasks that keep this place alive, there’s always a way to jump in.

Volunteering at De Fik is always on your terms, but when you choose to step up, we expect the same commitment you’d want from the people around you. You take ownership of the work you decide to do, because that’s what keeps this space running.

Even better, we love it when you come in with a vision — something you want to learn, a skill you want to build, a direction you want to explore. Tell us what drives you, and we’ll do everything we can to make space for your growth.
